Samantha Ruth Prabhu joins Varun Dhawan starrer Citadel India, says she is 'thrilled to be a part of this brilliant universe'

Prime Video on Wednesday confirmed that Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be starring alongside Varun Dhawan in the Indian installment of the Citadel universe, the global-event series from Prime Video and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO. The untitled Citadel series based out of India is being helmed by renowned creator duo Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), who are the showrunners and directors. The local installment is written by Sita R. Menon, along with Raj & DK. The streaming service also confirmed that the production is currently underway in Mumbai. After this, the unit will head to North India and then onwards to international locales like Serbia and South Africa. As previously announced, Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas will star in the first-to-launch series within the Citadel universe, which comes from the Russo Brothers’ AGBO along with David Weil and is set to premiere in 2023. Alongside Madden and Chopra Jonas, the first-to-launch Citadel series will also feature Stanley Tucci. Additional local-language Citadel productions are also in the works, including an Italian Original series starring Matilda De Angelis. “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Samantha once again. Colors show Durga Aur Charu to feature Rachi Sharma and Adrija Roy in lead roles after 10-Year leap

Rachi Sharma will now bring to life the character of Durga, whereas Adrija Roy takes on the role of Charu after the show takes a ten-year leap.  The once inseparable sisters will  now be seen leading separate lives, each pursuing their dreams and facing new challenges. Durga is now a successful lawyer and still looks up to Charu as her inspiration. But Charu has changed and she does not value friendship any longer. Aditya Roy Kapur, Mrunal Thakur starrer Gumraah takes over the release date April 7 after Bawaal gets postponed

Earlier today we had reported that the Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor starrer Bawaal that was slated to release on April 7 has been pushed further due to VFX and technical issues. However, now it seems that another film has taken over the same release date. Featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur for the first time together, Gumraah will be taking over the same release date. Gumraah is expected to be a crime thriller that will showcase a massive face-off between Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur. While the lead cast will come together for the first time, another interesting thing to watch in the film will be the dual role of the actor. Aditya has never played a double-role before and he will be seen in two distinct characters in the film whereas Mrunal will essay the character of a cop. Earlier, Aditya Roy Kapur had spoken about the film saying, “I am inspired and excited to be part of telling such an interesting story. Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor starrer Bawaal postponed due to VFX and technical requirements

Varun Dhawan fans have been eagerly waiting to see the actor on the big screen and Bawaal added to anticipation as it was bringing together VD and Janhvi Kapoor for the first time on the big screen. However, it seems that they have to wait a little more since the latest update on that front is that the film is witnessing a few delays due to technical issues. Sources close to the film claimed that the Sajid Nadiadwala production may be pushed further because Nitesh Tiwari and the team of the film are keen on using a special kind of technology for the film. Sources claim that the filmmakers are quite ambitious about the onscreen presentation of Bawaal and hence are even shooting it using a special technology in Poland. SCOOP: Kartik Aaryan delays Shehzada to February 17 out of respect to Shah Rukh Khan

While the trailer and music of the film has been trending across all the digital platforms, Bollywood Hungama has discovered that Shehzada, which was announced to arrive on February 10, 2023, has now been delayed by a week. “Pathaan is doing unimaginable business at the box office in India and is finally the Bollywood film that can break the records of Baahubali 2. The film is doing record-breaking business in India and Kartik Aaryan feels it will be unfair to release just 2 weeks after a film that’s doing so well for the film industry. Suresh Triveni to direct two projects for his banner Opening Image following Jalsa

Filmmaker Suresh Triveni’s last movie Jalsa, which released last March on Amazon Prime Video, received appreciation for its content as well as the performances from Vidya Balan, Shefali Shah and veteran actress Rohini Hattangadi. Following the film, Triveni announced his own creative studio and production house named Opening Image, in partnership with Vikram Malhotra-led Abundantia Entertainment. Triveni is now ready to roll his next two directorial ventures under his banner. Sharing more about his plan, an official statement from his publicist said, “While one film is an out-and-out action drama, the other one is a dramedy with an element of thrill that explores questions of identity in today’s world. Kareena Kapoor Khan wraps Hansal Mehta’s detective thriller & Sujoy Ghosh’s The Devotion of Suspect X: ‘Both these films are shockingly different’

Back in March 2022, Netflix announced that Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma were coming together to star in Sujoy Ghosh's untitled film. The film follows the story of a “single mother and her daughter who commit a crime and a neighbor who helps them cover it up amidst a police investigation.” The film is produced by 12th Street Entertainment, Northern Lights Films in association with Boundscript and Kross Pictures and marks Kareena Kapoor Khan’s streaming debut. Sujoy Ghosh will be producing the film along with Jay Shewakramani, Akshai Puri, and Thomas Kim. On another note, the actress has also wrapped the Hansal Mehta directorial, which is reportedly titled The Buckingham Murders. The film marks her debut as a producer along with Ekta Kapoor. “I love ‘Mare of Easttown’ and when Hansal came to me, I said this is something that I’ve really been dying to do. So we’ve molded a little bit on those lines, she plays a detective cop in that,” Kareena told Variety. “It’s the first time that I’ve dabbled in that.” The actress also said that the film is 80 percent shot in English and 20 percent in Hindi. It was extensively filmed in the UK. “I speak fluently in Hindi and I think also in Hindi because that’s been what I’ve been doing all my life,” she added. “When you’re thinking in Hindi, but speaking in English, it was actually a difficult task to do because it was the reverse situation for the first time.” “I never really thought that I would be a producer. But when I heard this subject, and the fact that it’s very different to a regular Hindi movie… it’s a very different, take to things. So I thought that will be really nice and different,” Kapoor Khan said. “And when Ektaa and Hansal told me that, ‘since you love the script so much, why don’t you come on board as a creative producer as well, and take some calls as to what you think also and give your name to it’ – after much thought, I thought that if I love something so much, and this is a character that I wanted to play, I think it’s fun to do it. This also marks the fourth collaboration between Anurag Kashyap and the actor, who plays a special role and will feature in a never-seen-before avatar in the coming-of-age romantic film. Anurag Kashyap expresses regret for turning down Sushant Singh Rajput's invitation to collaborate

Anurag Kashyap recently made headlines where he expressed guilt over his public statement about his Dev.D actor Abhay Deol and privately about the late Sushant Singh Rajput. In an interview, Anurag accused Abhay of being difficult to work with, claiming that the actor insisted on staying in a five-star hotel separate from the rest of the cast and crew. Abhay had denied this.  Anurag had revealed shortly after Sushant's death that he had refused to speak with him about a project because he was resentful of being ghosted by the actor in the past. The filmmaker discussed his differences with Abhay and Sushant in a new interview with Showsha. He said, “It’s taken me a year-and-a-half of sickness to realise a lot of things. I was so reactive; I would say things. I would say things out of anger, out of reaction, to things I felt perturbed by. It took me time to realise that I’m shouting, I’m shouting in a room full of people shouting. Nobody’s listening to each other, not just to me. That’s what social media has become. And I stepped back. I said, ‘Why am I reacting to this? What is bothering me?'”  He further added, “A lot has changed, but I know I have no filter. But it’s also made me realise I don’t need to say everything… For example, that whole spat between me and Abhay. Somebody was doing an article about why a very good actor like Abhay is no longer in the movies, and I spoke about my experiences, something that happened 13 years ago. I didn’t need to say it publicly. And the day the unfortunate incident happened of SSR, I felt so bad. Three weeks prior to that somebody was trying to reach out because he wanted to talk, and I was like, ‘No, he ghosted me, I don’t want to talk’. You get pangs of guilt. So, I tried to reach out to Abhay and I apologised to him, because somebody had told me that he was upset about me speaking publicly about him.”  Anurag stated that he told Abhay that it was fine to yell at him and then apologised repeatedly for what he said. However, Abhay appeared to be upset about what Anurag had said about him as recently as last month. Abhay called the filmmaker a "liar" and a "toxic" person in an interview with mid-day. Anurag acknowledged that they had both changed and expressed regret for what he had said.  Anurag had stated in a 2020 interview with NDTV that he was disappointed that Sushant had backed out of projects with him in favour of more high-profile jobs. He stated, “YRF called him and said, ‘We’ll give you a deal. You do Shuddh Desi Romance.’ Sushant, who used to sit in my office with Mukesh and all of us used to sit together, signed up with YRF and dropped Hasee Toh Phasee, a film of an outsider because usko validation YRF ka chahiye tha (he wanted validation from YRF). It’s with every actor, so I am not holding any grudges… Years later, in 2016, before the release of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Mukesh went to Sushant and said, ‘Anurag has written a script looking for an actor who can play someone based out of Uttar Pradesh.’ Dhoni released, became a success and he never called me back. Pathaan’s first-ever media event expected to take place on Monday, January 30; will be attended by Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham?

Rakhi Sawant pens down a heartfelt message after the death of her mother Jaya Sawant; celebs express condolences

After a protracted struggle with a brain tumour and cancer, Rakhi Sawant's mother Jaya Sawant passed away on Saturday. Rakhi’s mother had reportedly been in critical condition while being treated in a Mumbai hospital for several days. The actress posted the heart-breaking news along with a moving letter for her mother on social media.   Rakhi had posted updates on her mother's health as well as images and videos of her mother taken when she was in the hospital. In numerous paparazzi recordings, the actor had also pleaded with viewers to pray for her mother's quick recovery. Rakhi’s mother had receiving medical care in a hospital in Mumbai. She shared a post on Instagram on Saturday confirming that her mother Jaya Sawant had passed away following treatment for a brain tumour and cancer. According to a statement Rakhi posted on her Instagram story, the funeral will be held on Sunday.  Rakhi posted a touching video on Instagram with her mother. The actress was seen sobbing hysterically sitting on the floor while Rakhi's mother was shown fighting for her life in the video. Jacqueline Fernandez receives permission to travel to Dubai from Delhi High Court

Jacqueline Fernandez, who is currently being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate owing to her alleged involvement in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar Rs. 200 crore extortion case, has been granted the permission to travel abroad for professional commitments, albeit with certain conditions. On Friday, the Delhi Patiala High Court granted permission to Jacqueline Fernandez to travel to Dubai after her counsel argued that the actress may face lawsuit from the brand for non-participation if she doesn’t make it to the conference. Considering the same, the court has granted her permission to travel but along with that it has also observed that it will come along with some conditions. Owing to the fact that the ED is still investigating the Sukesh Chandrashekhar case, for which, she has been named as a witnessed, the court has laid certain guidelines for the actress including a FDR of Rs. 1 crore, in case she doesn’t return. As per the court order, the actress is also expected to give a full disclosure of her stay details in Dubai including itinerary, arrival, and departure. In the past too, Jacqueline Fernandez had filed a plea seeking permission to travel but had withdrawn the same. While the counsel argued that the actress decided to cooperate in the investigation and decided against traveling for personal reasons, the current reason for her to insist on leaving for Dubai is because of the professional repercussions she may face if she doesn’t attend the event. On the other hand, the ED opposed it not only stating that the case is still under investigation but also pointing out that Jacqueline is a foreign national which increases the threat of her fleeing. After listening to both arguments, the court upheld its decision of allowing Fernandez to travel for the conference but keeping in mind the ongoing investigation of the Sukesh Chandrashekhar Rs. 200 crore extortion case, the court has asked the actress to strictly adhere to the guidelines that have been laid down. For the unversed, Jacqueline Fernandez is being investigated for her alleged relationship with Sukesh Chandrashekhar. While the actress claims to be a victim of the conman, the Enforcement Directorate is investigating and has filed multiple chargesheets regarding the same. The SCO Council of Heads of States and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) had collaborated to organise the film festival. On the opening day of the festival, Bollywood celebrities Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Hema Malini, and others received awards. In Mumbai for the festival's opening, Union Minister Thakur noted that the distinctions between regional and worldwide film have become more hazy and emphasised the importance of creating high-quality content that will be recognised on a global scale. He told reporters, "Somebody asked me about regional or how come it is an international thing here, nothing is regional today if the content has the power, it will go places, from regional to national to international. Keep making good content; there are no boundaries for good content. This (Appatha) is going to make great news at the box office and will be seen across the world." India is hosting the G20 Summit in 2023, and it also holds the SCO Presidency, according to the minister, making it a significant year for the country. He asserted that India and the SCO have close ties, and for many years, residents of the SCO's member countries have praised and adored Indian movies. "In one-year (these) big events are happening in India. And we have a lot of showcases, especially our rich cultural heritage, (and) we should only be proud of it. The world of cinema is incomplete without India and India is the largest filmmaking country and of late we are making right news, right noise at the international level," he added. The festival's mission, according to the minister, is to foster young filmmaker potential, foster relationships in the film industry, and function as a bridge between the cultures of this distinctive region. It also offers exchange programmes. When Thakur inquired about Akshay Kumar's readiness to appear in foreign movies, the 55-year-old actor responded, “I believe in being aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) and will do Hindustani films." On the other hand, Shroff asserted that he is open to acting in foreign films and that he thinks that cinema transcends all languages. He said, "Films transcends boundaries, it is a visual medium and creativity has no language. I am very happy to be here and be part of this event and celebrate Indian cinema and its growth, and of course world cinema and all the countries that have participated and showed their talent." Hema Malini asserted that a major factor in an actor's increasing notoriety outside of India is participation in film festivals. "Through the festival a lot can happen. Like, (for) SCO film festival, there is participation from Russia, China, Uzbekistan and other (countries), it is a good thing and the result will be good. Long ago, I acted in an Indo-Russian collaboration film, 'Alibaba Aur 40 Chor' and because of that many people know me (in that country)," the actress said. Shaheer Sheikh rescues 16-month-old daughter, wheelchair-bound father-in-law and wife Ruchikaa Kapoor after fire breaks out in Andheri building

Last to last night was tough for the family of popular TV actor Shaheer Sheikh. For the unversed, on January 25, 2023, a massive fire broke out in the actor's building. Shaheer Sheikh's wife Ruchika Kapoor took to her verified social media handle and shared the details of the horrific incident. On a long note, Kapoor stated that she was at home with her 16-month-old daughter and parents and at around 1.30 am, she got a call that their building was on fire. However, after a lot of effort, the whole family was evacuated safely. Ruchikaa Kapoor thanked the firefighters and explained the incident in detail. She said that her father is wheelchair-bound while her daughter Anaya is just 16 months old. Given this, it was very difficult to get down the stairs from her 15th-floor apartment. Ruchikaa further added that Shaheer Sheikh and his brother-in-law along with firefighters came to rescue her. After a lot of effort, the whole family was evacuated till 5 in the morning. Sarfarosh fame John Mathew Matthan joins Vivek Agnihotri, Priyadarshan and others for the series One Nation

Filmmaker John Mathew Matthan had a dream directorial debut with the Aamir Khan and Naseeruddin Shah-starrer Sarfarosh. The film, which won critical and box office accolades, is still remembered. However, his next film Shikhar (2005), which starred Ajay Devgn and Shahid Kapoor, didn’t do well. His following project A New Love Ishtory couldn’t get completed. Now, Matthan has bagged a web-series titled One Nation. The Sarfarosh filmmaker will be directing one episode along with the likes of Priyadarshan, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, Maju Bohara and Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan for the show. All six filmmakers are National Award winners. The show is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Hitesh Thakkar. EXCLUSIVE: Aamir Khan’s sister Nikhat Khan Hegde plays Shah Rukh Khan’s foster mother in Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan is back and how! Yesterday, fans thronged the theatres across the country as early as 6 in the morning to watch Shah Rukh Khan return to the big screen in a lead role with Pathaan. The anticipation was through the roof, social media pages were buzzing on the opening day and the fans are stoked to see SRK back in action. The film also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham alongside Ashutosh Rana and Dimple Kapadia. Interestingly, SRK’s foster mother is played by Nikhat Khan Hegde. Bollywood Hungama can confirm that Aamir Khan’s sister Nikhat Khan Hegde plays Pathaan’s foster mother, an Afghani woman, in the film. In the movie, she not only calls Pathaan his son but also sies a taweez, an armband, during an emotional interaction in Afghanistan. Nikhat has been reposting video clips on her Instagram stories from audiences in theatres who were quick to recognize her. Last year, Nikhat Khan made her TV debut with the Star Plus show, Banni Chow Home Delivery. As an actor, she has worked on the films like Mission Mangal, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, and Saand Ki Aankh among others. She has also worked as a producer and has been the name behind many projects like Lagaan, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, and Tum Mere Ho, among others. Pathaan protests in MP: Home Minister Narottam Mishra says there is no point in protesting now

Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback film Pathaan is expected to earn around Rs 50 crores at the box office on its first day (yesterday). The film has succeeded in pulling large crowds into the cinema halls in such a way that it is expected to break the record of the highest opening for a Bollywood movie. But amidst such scenes, some Right Wing organizations held some protests against Pathaan in parts of Madhya Pradesh yesterday, as reported by NDTV. The film was under fire for the saffron coloured bikini worn by Deepika Padukone in the song ‘Besharam Rang’ as that colour is considered sacred by the Hindus. But the state’s Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said that there is no point in having any protests now as there have been “corrections” made in the film by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certifications). Speaking to a group of reporters, he said, “I believe all rectifications have been made in it (film). The Censor Board has made corrections. Controversial words have been removed. So, I don’t see any point in protesting now.” He also said that those who are still protesting against the movie will be “counselled,” added the same report by NDTV. Mishra, who is a part of the BJP, was one of the first persons to raise objections in Pathaan last month for the colour of the bikini in the said song. He had said then, “The outfits worn (by Deepika Padukone) in the song are objectionable. It is evident that this song has been picturized by polluted minds. Anyways, Deepika ji has been a supporter of the ‘Tukde Tukde’ gang; she attended the JNU protests. BREAKING: More than 20,000 shows of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan are playing in a day in just Mumbai circuit, a RECORD for a Hindi film post-pandemic

The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan has embarked upon an earth-shattering opening. The word of mouth has been quite positive as the moviegoers have been impressed by the film’s tight narrative, scale, action, emotions, and of course the performances of SRK, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham. The cameo by Salman Khan, which was an open secret, has also been loved unanimously and has contributed to the craze around the film. The advance booking of Pathaan began on January 18 on a rocking note. With each passing day, ticket sales increased. A trade source said, “We all knew that there’s tremendous demand for the film. Yet, we were not prepared to see such kinds of bookings. Hence, many exhibitors and multiplexes increased shows to cater to the insane demand.” It has now come to light that in the Mumbai circuit, Pathaan has more than 20,000 shows a day! The source continued, “In the past, films like RRR (2022), Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion (2017), Avatar: The Way Of Water (2022), Avengers: Endgame (2019), etc also had so many shows in the circuit. But post-pandemic, this is a first for the Mumbai circuit for a Hindi film. It speaks volumes of its hype.” Bollywood Hungama has been continuously reporting about such happening box-office-related developments of Pathaan. In the morning, we reported that exhibitors increased 300 shows of the film right after the first show. At present, the total screen count of the film is 8,000 screens across the world. While 5,500 of these screens are in India, the rest of the 2,500 screens are Overseas. Pathaan is also the first Indian film to release in over 100 countries in the world A few days back, Bollywood Hungama had also exclusively informed readers that Cinepolis multiplex in Seasons Mall, Pune has set a record as it is playing as many as 62 shows of Pathaan in a day. The Thane property of Cinepolis, meanwhile, is playing 59 shows in a day.

Shah Rukh Khan's slick spy actioner Pathaan releases in the world's highest altitude movie theatre in Ladakh

A Mobile Digital Movie Theatre company called Picturetime known for its mission of bringing cinematic entertainment to the farthest corners of India, installed one of its state-of-the-art inflatable cinema screens in Leh, Ladakh earlier in 2021. Confirmed! Alisha Panwar to enter Kumkum Bhagya after the six-years leap

But my character is 10 times more vicious than Tina's and I am just glad that I am getting to work in a popular show like Kumkum Bhagya. Amitabh Bachchan receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Saudi Arabia

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has successfully bagged yet another award at Saudi Arabia. He expressed his gratitude and gave a heartfelt acceptance speech while receiving the award. The actor shared the same on social media.

Amitabh Bachchan bagged Lifetime Achievement Award at 2023 Joy Awards for his contribution to the Indian movies. Legendary actor Bachchan took to his Instagram and shared the video. The post incorporated several clips from the actor’s film, following which he can be seen giving a speech. “My immense gratitude for your affection and care .. and for the honour ..”, the actor captioned while sharing the video.

In his speech he mentioned that it was his first visit to Saudi, but won’t be his last. The actor said, “I’ve always believed that cinema is a medium of entertainment, and it is a medium that brings people together and integrates human society. We come from different walks of life and come from different paths of the world, but when we watch something, we laugh at the same jokes and cry at the same things. We come together at one platform.”

“My father, a great poet - during the last days of his life, he used to watch a Hindi film every evening, sometimes repeating the same film every time. I asked him what is it that you find interesting in cinema. He said that I get poetic justice in three hours. You and I won’t get poetic justice in a lifetime or several lifetimes. That’s the power of cinema. I’m proud to be a very small part of the film industry of my country. When you honour me today, you honour the film industry of my country, you honour my country,” he further added.

Amitabh was accompanied by his family members including Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan in Saudi Arabia.

On the work front, Amitabh was last seen in Sooraj Barjatya’s Uunchai. The actor has Project K in his pipeline, starring alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone.

Netflix’s The Elephant Whisperers bags the nomination for the 95th Oscars, Documentary Short Film. This documentary marks the directorial debut of Kartiki Gonsalves. The documentary is produced by Guneet Monga and Achin Jain under the banner of Sikhya Entertainment. The documentary was screened at the United States of America’s largest and most prestigious documentary festival - DOC NYC 2022 Film Festival on November, 10th 2022. The DOC NYC celebrates and supports the cultural shift of how documentary storytelling is flourishing like never before.
